I have 100 photos to send, but have to limit them to 30. So much happens in one week, not to mention one month! I started the month of March at a pastors’ wives retreat in the mountains. It was such a blessing to pour into the lives of other women in ministry and be blessed in return. Calvary Academy from Lakewood, NJ came with their senior class March 1-8. First they painted the church, school and new parsonage in Sabaneta, lots of work! They blessed the churches with their ministry, and were prayed over at Gemuel’s church. We visited Haitian schools where we gave out presents and measured the kids’ height and weight for our Convoy of Hope report. They ministered in the La Vega Christian School chapels, too. During their beach day, 7 students were baptized! God did so much in and through the 15 students and 7 chaperones.

The following week we received a hard-working team from Iowa. This is the 4th year they have come. They worked on the foundation of the new music room at LVCS. We held a 2 day dental and medical clinic in the Haitian school in Rio Verde, where we saw over 300 patients. We visited more Haitian schools to measure the children, and gave out 200 bags of food, going door to door in some of the poorest communities imaginable. We are so grateful for these teams who raise money to come, to build, to paint, to share their talents with other members of the family of God. We also gave away two cases of New Testaments in Creole.

Liberty Ministries was in San Juan de la Maguana this year, so we drove over to be with them. I translated 4 times in 3 days, in services and a special ladies’ meeting. What a joy to see people come forward for salvation! People are hungry for the Lord. It’s always a joy to minister with this group, which has been coming to the DR since 1986.

From March 18-28 we hosted a group of 13 from Wyoming and Montana. The men worked on the music room, getting the walls up and columns formed. The women organized all the English books in our school library and taught in several classes. We painted the school in Cenovi, and measured the students there and 2 other schools. They loved the Haitian church service on Sunday morning.

On Saturday, March 29 we had our monthly meeting and training session with the pastors and teachers from all 17 schools for Haitian children. That day we fed 86. I am happy to see them desiring to learn to be better teachers and administrators. We have over 1000 students in all those schools, and they deserve our very best.

We had some serious setbacks this month, for which I am asking for prayer. Pastor Danes from Barranca lost his brother, age 25, from kidney failure. The assistant pastor’s wife from Sabaneta was taken by immigration, but is now home, thanks to a special offering. Pastor Alex’s van was taken by Immigration officials. He still doesn’t have it back. The fine is almost $2000 dollars. One pastor had two accidents in 2 days. Some of our sponsors have special health needs. We know that God answers prayer, so we won’t stop praying and believing.

Thank you for your part in helping us educate, feed and love the precious Haitian children God has given us. They love God, their teachers, their friends, and they are thankful for you. We love to get our hugs when we visit.

In December we took presents to 160 students in Sabaneta and another 65 to Rose of Sharon. We had so much fun with them! They loved their toys. When we get back to the DR in January, we will be buying more gifts and taking them to the students at the other 15 schools. Yes, we have grown this past year, from 14 schools to 17. And we are feeding 1030 students every day, plus our 188 staff members! God is faithful.  A special thank you to the sponsors who sent extra for the presents. We also are giving the teachers a cash offering.

Another surprise! Our missionary colleague, Joseph Kim, brought us enough food to prepare 1250 food bags! They have already been delivered to Cutupu and Moca, and the rest will be delivered in January. Our staff at La Vega Christian School helped bag them up, so of course we gifted them with bags as well.

Dear Friends and Sponsors of Teach Feed Love,

Greetings from the Dominican Republic! It is not as hot as last month, as we are now in our rainy season.  The students, teachers, pastors, and directors send their greetings and prayers.

This month we are visiting each school, taking the food that Convoy of Hope provides for them. Today in Villa Tapia we dropped off 8 boxes of rice, totaling 246 pounds, 4 boxes of dried soup mix, two 50-pound bags of oatmeal, 1 bucket of dried peaches and 3 boxes of soy. That food will feed the 66 students for November and December. Thanks to BGMC offerings, we also provide money to the schools to pay for gas for the stove, and the other ingredients they need to make delicious hot meals for the kids.

While we were there, we gathered the sponsored kids to write letters to their sponsors. That was no small task! In every school, we find that a third of the students are no longer there. They moved back to Haiti, or Brazil, or another part of the country. Some are in Dominican public schools. So, we are assigning new students to those sponsors. You can expect your letters to arrive in late December. We will be traveling to the US on December 16, will get the photos developed, and then send the letters to you sponsors.

Meanwhile, the students are asking us an important question. When are we going to bring the presents? We will need your help with this. Would you please consider giving an extra gift this month or next so we can buy gifts for the children? We would like to deliver the presents in January, to celebrate Three King’s Day.

Can you imagine a year without Christmas?

The children are counting on us, for a safe place to go to school, a church where they learn about Jesus, eat a delicious hot meal, have friends, and celebrate our Savior’s birth. I don’t want to disappoint them.

It takes a village! I am so thankful for each person and church who supports us as missionaries to the Dominican Republic, where we have been serving since 1992.

The faithfulness of God never ceases to amaze me! We are also very thankful for each person who helps support our Haitian school program. Every month we wait for the miracle provision! The 15 school directors are thankful for the funds we give them to pay their teachers and buy food for the hot meals they serve the children. As special offerings and donations come in, we also help them with other pressing needs.

This letter brings you photos of the roof project in Ponton. As I wrote in my last letter, the school has grown. The pastor divided the small sanctuary into 4 classrooms using orange tarps, but there was still not enough room. He sent the older students to the roof, up rickety stairs with no handrail, with only a tarp for a roof. Thanks to some special offerings, we were able to provide wood and tin for the roof. The photos below were taken this week. I wanted to send you the photos even though the project is not quite finished. He actually needs more money to finish the walls and the bond beam and more reliable columns. We also purchased an industrial stove like the one in the picture for the school in Moca. They have doubled in size, and the little table stove can’t handle the big pots.

Thank you very much for your timely donations. Each one is very important to us. We are also thankful for the BGMC offering we will be receiving this month, to pay for the food. And a special thanks to Convoy of Hope for providing rice and beans. It’s a joint effort! Next week our La Vega Christian School students, in grades 4, 5 and 6 will each be visiting a Haitian school as their mission trip. They have collected piles of school supplies, food, clothing, shoes, and toys to give to the students. They will be reciting Bible verses, telling Bible stories, and using song and dance to preach the gospel. Now you know what to expect in the next letter!

Dear Friends and Sponsors of Teach Feed Love,

Today we visited the Haitian school in Villa Tapia. (See photos below.) It’s located in a small town about 40 minutes from La Vega. The school and church are on the second floor of a business on the main street. We carefully made our way up the narrow stairs, avoiding the wrappers and juice bottles a few students had left. They usually eat their meals on the steps.

A wave of heat accosted us as we entered the door to the small room that housed 46 students and 4 teachers. The kids were so excited to see us! They jumped up and down, ran to hug us and give us kisses. Oh, and they saw the bag of candy I was carrying. That’s one way to be popular!  They also liked the pencils, notebooks, and art supplies we brought.

I was dismayed to see that only a handful of these lovely, lively, enthusiastic children have desks. Most sit in a big chair and write with their notebooks on their laps. We would like to provide more student desks and some tables.

Would you be willing to do a little extra to help the school in Villa Tapia? We need to buy folding tables, so they can be put to the side when they have church services. The ones with adjustable legs cost $72 each, and we need a minimum of 6. Any gift would be very much appreciated.

I am making this special request because the sponsor money goes to pay the teachers and food expenses. We are very grateful for each and every one of our sponsors and donors. Thank you, gracias, merci. Thank you for being faithful.
